TAMO 397 has the best crown rust resistance of any available variety. It is the only variety having effective crown rust resistance to also show any stem rust resistance. Since both crown rust and stem rust frequently are damaging in the area south of College Station-Austin line, this new variety has performed particularly well in this area. Due to rust resistance, TAMO 397 shows higher test weights and forage yields. With excellent standability, TAMO 397 is also very desirable for producing oat hay or oat silage.
