BELL RHODESGRASS
(Chloris gayana)
Introduced
warm season perennial bunch grass. Grows 2-4' tall, stems growing
from a leafy base, erect bunch grass but often with long stolons
which root at the leafy nodes. The culms are somewhat wiry and
flattened with dark nodes. The inflorescence has 10 or more
terminal spikes.
Adaptation: Adapted
to most soil types. Grows best on well drained soils of South
Texas and Mexico, and other similar semiarid climates around
the world. Lacks cold tolerance, therefore, should not be planted
in colder climates were danger of sever cold temperatures may
persist.
Uses: Good
grazing for wildlife and livestock,
good hay production and erosion control. |
