Green Sprangletop (Leptochloa
dubia)
Native perennial warm season bunch grass. Provides fair grazing
for wildlife, good grazing for livestock. Grows 1-3' tall, stems
with flat base and flat sheaths. The stems are wiry with slightly
rough leaves. Large green sprangled panicle is composed of 5-12
spikes. Inflorescence isdrooping and pale after maturity. The
spikelets are overlapping on short pedicels and 4-8 flowered.
Adaptation: Green
Sprangletop grows well on rocky sites as well as sandy soils
and heavier soils. It is adapted throughout Texas, Southern
New Mexico, Southeast Arizona, and Florida.

is a popular grass among wildlife enthusiasts because of the
size of the seed for food and density of forage for habitat.
Excellent "nurse" crop for slower establishing perennials. A
very palatable grass.
