Giant Bermudagrass
(Cynodon dactylon)

Introduced, perennial, warm season sod forming grass. Grows up to 2 feet tall, dark bluish-green sod grass with both rhizomes and stolons that take root at nodes. The internodes are flattened. The ligule is a conspicuous ring of white hairs. The inflorescence has 3-6 purple spikes which resemble a bird's foot. Similar to common bermudagrass, however grows more upright.

Adaptation: Adapted to most soil types, performs best on sandy to mix soils. Grows in areas with 25" annual rainfall or greater.

Uses: Poor for wildlife, good grazing for livestock, excellent for hay production and erosion control. Responds well to high fertility, excellent choice for overseeding tank dams, and waterways.
